Wrapping up The Inaugural Month of Love

This past Saturday scratchDC hosted a blow-out extravaganza to cap off our Inaugural Month of Love. In February, $1 for every meal you purchased from scratchDC benefited the Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture to further the work they're doing to promote a more equitable and sustainable food system here in DC.

Arcadia runs a beautiful farm in Alexandria that grows over 50 varieties of fruits, veggies, and herbs. The farm serves as a living agricultural classroom for school children and burgeoning farmers alike. Those lucky enough to visit the farm on a field trip or during Farm Camp get a chance to get their hands dirty - many of them for the first time.

Arcadia spreads the value of sustainable food to an even wider audience via its amazing Mobile Market. The refurbished school bus makes weekly stops in low-food-access neighborhoods of DC, packed with high-quality, sustainably grown food from their farm and others within 100 miles of the city. Arcadia makes the food affordable by matching (doubling) the value of SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits up to $10 per transaction. In the last two seasons, the Mobile Market has served more than 10,000 customers, selling $110,000 of local food in communities that would otherwise have no access to fresh, nutritious food.

Saturday's super fun event went down at Mellow Mushroom in Adams Morgan. It was awesome to bring together similarly minded people who care about food issues - and who know how to party. DJ JonSunB (arranged by the fabulous folks at RaiseYourCity) spun dance tunes while peeps enjoyed great beer and delicious pizza. There was free swag, including the all-new scratchDC 4-in-1 kitchen utensils, plus tons of raffle prizes for scratchDC meal bundles and even Caps tickets. The raffle entirely benefited Arcadia. We also brought back our Egg Hunt - that's frikkin right. Eggs with prizes inside of them never get old!

Thanks for making The Month of Love a huge success! All told, scratchDC helped raise just over $1600 for Arcadia!  This includes the $1 collected for every order, the MOL raffle, customer donations and referrals, plus the $1 for every New Belgium Snap Shot sold during February, graciously donated by Mellow Mushroom. scratchDC salutes everyone who contributed and helped support an organization that is working hard to better the lives of our fellow Washingtonians every day.

February was our inaugural Month of Love, but we're planning more. Stay tuned for future opportunities to give back to your community with your friends at scratchDC!
